- Can anyone attend the Wellers auctions and bid? Yes, the auctions are open to the public, anyone over 16 can come and register to bid on a wide range of goods, however, to bid on electrical items you must be registered as a Trade buyer.
- I've never been to an auction before, I'm worried that I'll accidentally buy something. That's a common fear, but misplaced. You will see some people who make subtle bids but this is because they are regulars who are known by the Auctioneer. To bid, you should look at the Auctioneer and let them know that you are bidding, for example raise your registration card above your head.
- What do I have to do then to bid? You will need a deposit (£50 for the Public Room 1 or £200 for Trade areas i.e. Rooms 2 & 3). You will be required to complete a registration form with your name and contact details, specifying whether you are an electrical trader and/or VAT registered and sign to accept our terms and conditions of sale, which are auction industry standard. Our staff will provide you with a numbered bidding card. Whenever you want to bid just raise your card clearly to the auctioneer. You must be registered to bid.
- Are there any other charges over and above the Hammer Price Yes, in general all Auctioneers levy a Buyer's Premium on the Hammer Price. Ours is 20% + VAT though the Premium may vary in some Specialist Auctions. Most Lots (thoes marked with an * in the Catalogue) also attract VAT on the Hammer Price. Thus, the additional costs above the Hammer Price can be for example,
A) A £100 Hammer price with only Buyers Premium of £23.50 inc VAT (23.5%) equates to a total cost of £123.50
B) Where there is VAT on the Hammer Price of £100 there will be Buyers Premium (inc VAT) of £23.5 (23.5%) and VAT of £17.50 (17.5%) equating to a total cost of £141.00.

- What if I buy something? Your deposit is offset against your balance when paying.
- How long does an auction last for? The auctioneer will get through 200 to 250 lots per hour, so a 1,500 lot auction will last approx 6 to 7 hours, but this can vary greatly depending on the nature of goods for sale.
- Can I leave a telephone bid? Unfortunately no. You can leave a commission bid by completing a Commission Bid form, our Online Commission Bid form, or via email
- Where do all the goods come from and why are they at auction? We have served banks, finance companies, companies and insolvency practitioners by selling surplus goods at auction. We currently auction thousands of goods for well known high street retail companies who prefer to sell 'end of line products', 'ex-demo' and 'returned' stock away from their shops in. We also Auction Unclaimed Property from various sources. Items may have be damage and all bidders are advised to view and assess lots to there own satisfaction.
- How do I know if a particular lot is any good or is working? All goods are “Sold as Scrap”. You may view items between 3.30pm and 6.30pm on Monday before the Sale (we are closed for Bank Holiday Mondays) and from 8:00 am on Tuesday. Kitsmead Viewing is only from 8:00am on the Day of the Sale. During this time staff are on hand to assist with any items you may want to inspect. Staff cannot provide any guarantees regarding the nature of items, so we advise you to allow adequate time for viewing.
- Can I test Lots before buying? No. Where possible we will have Plasma, LCD and widescreen TVs, Laptops and desktops and some other Lots plugged in to show they work. Wellers Trade and Retail Auctions are different from shops because many items are Retail Returns and are "Sold as Scrap" and carry NO warranties or guarantees, even on new sealed items. However, on the flip side, that's why people pick up bargains at auctions.
